I'll Tell You Why (Why is sidewalk walking an obstacle course for some?)

I cannot even believe I came across an article about the audacity of how white people take up spaces--with all the entitlement you can surely imagine, and of course, sans awareness. I have been deeply affected by the way in which white people take up space. One way in which white people demand space--with all the willful ignorance they are well known for--is by refusing to go one behind the other when sidewalk walking in the opposite direction--so that EVERYBODY gets to move forward with dignity and RESPECT. This behavior happens in stores as well; they wait for you to go around, even though they do not do the same when the scenario is switched. And when I do not move out of their way, they scowl at me, as if to say, "How dare you not part for me!" Or "Why I've never!" white people, if I can help it: You will no longer get to move through this world thinking you are someone you are not. I will do everything in my power to make you aware of your white privileges and the comfortable bubble that you exist in; the bubbles that cause emotional trauma to Black People and People of color.

I don't hate white people; however, Black People and People of color want to live in a world where we are ALL celebrated, respected, cherished, protected, and get to benefit financially, equally, and equitably for our hard work and contributions to our communities and nations. Communities where one receives help and guidance (financially, schooling, and otherwise), opportunities, and benefits of doubts as afforded to the white population. We desire and demand these societal and political changes--regardless of exterior presentations and genders which have nothing to do with receiving opportunities that will assist in uplifting, building, and investing in a beautifully multicultural society--succeeding and contributing throughout the land. I desire that all humxns--regardless of hair texture, color of skin, religious affiliations, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, immigration status, where you live, where you come from, age, past mistakes or past incarcerations--can be around each other and see and celebrate our differences and see our connections and humxnities.

I desire that all people receive a leg up and all the support one would need to succeed using all their born gifts--and whatever else one would like to learn--so that everyone can live successful, full, joyful lives. These lives will not only benefit that person's life, but the community at large, moving the world positively, humanely, sustainably, and lovingly forward. That is what most all Black People, People of Color, and White People want. So, let's just choose to live this way. Let's change this world everybody. Let's do it. Right now. Nothing and no one can stop us. But, in order to do this world-changing, we must All learn the real HerHisStory of this country, and world.

white people: practice feeling uncomfortable. Do your own research. It's time for white people to be aware of how they move within the world and how that movement effects those around them. white people must begin to be aware of their actions, as well as, asking themselves questions about why they have the feelings they have around Black People and People of Color. Be honest with yourself. Read the books. Do the work. So that we All can live peaceful, loveFull, equtitable lives where we All can see our differences and hence, celebration ensues!
